Confined Space Services

Confined Space Services

Following OSHA 1910.146 and ANSI Z117 Guidelines

SITE REVIEW

We provide an on-site review and assessment to determine spaces at your facility that are considered 'Confined Spaces' and furthermore evaluate the workplace to determine if any of these confined spaces are Permit-Required Confined Spaces per the requirements of OSHA 1910.146.

At the conclusion of this site review, we will provide a report that lists all the spaces assessed. This report will identify a unique name and/or number for the space, location of the space, means of entry (ladder, stairs, manway, etc.), size of space, internal configuration, hazards posed, and any other pertinent safety information.

PROGRAM

As part of our projects we can develop an overall Confined Space Program for your site that includes all the key elements required including:

  • Inventory of Permit-Required Confined Spaces
  • Signage or identification of spaces
  • Hazards posed by each space
  • Confined Space Entry Permits
  • Methods to control of hazards
  • Personnel involved in entry
  • Rescue provisions

SAFE ENTRY PROCEDURES

Confined space safe entry procedures are then developed for each space that details the steps that need to be taken prior to allowing entry. This will help ensure that all hazards are eliminated or effectively controlled properly prior to entry.

These procedures will also include information on how to either Reclassify the space from a permit-required confined space to a non-permit confined space, or proper Alternate Entry Procedures if applicable.

  • Reclassify: Process most be documented and additionally the space must pose no actual or potential atmospheric hazards. Control of atmospheric hazards through forced air ventilation does not meet this requirement.
  • Alternate Entry Procedures: These types of procedures can be used if the only hazard posed by the permit space is an actual or potential hazardous atmosphere and forced air ventilation alone will maintain space safe for entry.

TRAINING

We provide training of your personnel that will be involved in the Permit-Required Confined Space Entry. There are four key groups that need training:

  • Entry Supervisor: Person responsible for the entry, permit, and ensuring all is being done correctly.
  • Authorized Entrant: Person or persons that enter the space.
  • Authorized Attendant: Responsible for ensuring the safety of the Authorized Entrants.
  • Rescue Personnel: Must be able to respond in a timely manner to rescue persons from the space when needed.
